Yes the result has been announced and we are proud to say that Morton has gained a fantastic Yorkshire Rose SILVER AWARD. For a group that has only been in existence for 12 months this is a stunning achievement. Lee Senior who co-ordinates MIB’s efforts was delighted with the progress the village has made in a relatively short space of time. He said to come in at a Silver in our first year is wonderful. Many new entrants start out with Bronze or less, but we have come in at a standard much higher than this. It is a recognition of all the hard work that has gone into our campaign. I would like to thank all villagers who made a special effort to help with our bloom campaign. Many put extra pots outside their front door, others weeded and tidied the street and driveways. It all helped make a big difference and we got many favourable comments from the judges saying how clean and weed-free our village looked on the day. All the benefits of entering the it are long term for the village, and there are many indirect benefits too. The Morton Village Society has been wonderfully supportive and Bradford Council Streetscene department and Keighley Area Committee have played important roles too.

Although we have done well, we must aim to progress next year to the next award which is a Silver Gilt. This is achievable, so long as the group keeps up the momentum and carries on with it’s good work. One day we would like to crowned as best village in Yorkshire.

2010 Campaign

This has started already! In September we created a new long border next to the entrance sign on Carr Lane, which will add lots of colour and interest to a previously bland piece of land. We have also created a brand new circular bed on the village green near the barrow, funded kindly by the Village Society. Next on our horizon is to order some hayracks or troughs for summer bedding for next year kindly paid for by funding from Keighley Town Council. Judging for our village will be in late March or early April next year, so we cannot be complacent as we are aiming for a Silver Gilt award.
